Need a Challenge? Become a Volunteer

Linda Taylor’s are working in conjunction with Leonard Cheshire Disability and we have, in fact, seconded our very own Jackie O’Sullivan for 3 months to help with their main aim, which is to help with the recruitment of volunteers for this very worthy cause:

Leonard Cheshire Disability exists to change attitudes to disability and to serve disabled people around the world. Their principal activity in the UK is the provision of services in support of disabled people in the widest context. These services include care homes, supported living, domiciliary support, day services, resource centres, rehabilitation, respite care, personal support and training and assistance for those looking for work.
Volunteering for Leonard Cheshire Disability is enjoyable and fulfilling – we know this through the comments of their many volunteers. Whatever your background and skills, there is a rewarding opportunity for you to support their work with disabled people across the UK.
By volunteering, you can:
o Meet new people
o Learn a new skill
o Use your experience and existing skills for valuable work
o Make a contribution to your local community
o Get job and college references
o Gain work experience for your CV
o Make a positive difference to the world around you
There are many volunteering opportunities available across the North West and include:
FUNDRAISING
• Enthusiastic volunteers, willing to embrace the community spirit of getting involved in local events, are needed urgently.
• There are many opportunities available from bucket collectors, events volunteers, research volunteers and many more.
• Events happen throughout the year and friendly helpful volunteers are always needed and greatly appreciated.
• If you think you have what it takes to make a real difference in your local community then this is the opportunity for you.
BEFRIENDERS
Leonard Cheshire is looking for volunteers to link up with individuals with disabilities, in the Salford and Middleton area, spending time with them on a regular basis either in their own home or out in the community. The disabled people involved in this scheme may be socially isolated and may find it difficult to go out into the community or get involved in the activities they would like to do. A visit from a friendly volunteer could make a real difference to their lives. Examples of activities which service users may want support with include shopping, trips to the cinema and theatre, sports and games, or help with IT.
All out of pocket expenses are paid and full training is given. If you would like to help or want to know more then please contact Jackie O’Sullivan on 01942 734556 / 07738 033017 or email jackie.o’sullivan@lcdisability.org
